LIMS II: Technology

Labor Information Management System

LIMS II is a Windows-based enterprise software application for Funds and Unions. The multi-module, multi-tier structure of LIMS II allows it to scale from small offices to large, from a few hundred members to hundreds of thousands. Below are brief decriptions of the key technologies that LIMS II employs.

Development

LIMS II is developed in the Borland Delphi application development environment. More on Delphi (borland.com).

Database

Tier 1
For smaller offices with up to 10 or so staff members accessing the system at any one time, LIMS II utliizes the Advantage database. This setup allows the database and the application to reside on the same server, allowing you to realize up-front cost benefits with a single application and database server. Tier 2
For larger fund or union offices with hundreds of thousands of members, LIMS II utilizes Microsoft SQL Server as the backend database. This brings greater performance and scalability needed for high volume, high use data intensive applications. More on Microsoft SQL Server (microsoft.com).

Both Tier 1 and Tier 2 setups can incorporate RAID technology for data redundancy in the event of hardware failure.

Platforms

Client
Client machines running LIMS II require the Microsoft Windows ME, 2000, or XP operating systems. Client machines are recommended to be at least a 1 Ghz processor with 256 MB RAM.

Server
LIMS II requires Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional/Server. Server machines are recommended to be at least a 1 Ghz processor with 512 MB RAM.

Reporting

LIMS II uses Crystal Reports as its reporting tool. This allows users to customize their reporting needs as they see fit, allowing for flexibility beyond the built in reports. More on Crystal Reports (crystaldecisions.com).

Remote Support

Quest supports LIMS II remotely, enabling our Help Desk staff to dial in to your system and incorporate software updates or patches without the need to schedule a visit to your office. This expedites the level and speed of services and support tremendously.

Integration

LIMS II can be integrated to work with your existing Office suites (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) as well as integrate with your accounting software (Quickbooks, Peachtree, etc.).
